 Westminster Abbey
Westminster Abbey or The Collegiate Church of St Peter at Westminster is one of the largest Gothic churches and is located in Westminster next to the Palace of Westminster.
Westminster Abbey is an architectural work of art with the main construction happening between the thirteenth to sixteenth centuries. The Abbey represents a unique spectacle of British History and royalty. It has served as a place of the coronation, marriage and burial for the British monarchy since 1066.
Few of the most important things not to be missed by while visiting Westminster Abbey are the Royal Tombs and Shrine of Edward the Confessor, the Coronation Chair, Lady Chapel and poets' Corner and the tomb of the Unknown Soldier. The grounds of Westminster Abbey are also home to St Catherine's Chapel Garden and the College Garden overlooking the Houses of Parliament.
The Westminster abbey museum is located in one of the oldest areas of the Abbey, dating back almost to the foundation of the Norman church in 1065. It has some of the priceless exhibits in its collection including royal and other funeral effigies, treasures, including some panels of medieval glass, 12th century sculpture fragments, Mary II's coronation chair and replicas of the Coronation regalia, effigies of Edward III, Henry VII and his queen, Elizabeth I, Charles II, William III, Mary II and Queen Anne and the recently added 13th century Westminster Retable, England's oldest altarpiece.
