 Wellington Arch
Wellington Arch is located to the south of Hyde Park in Central London and was completed in 1830 as a grand entrance to Buckingham Palace. The Arch is also called Constitution Arch or Green Park Arch and is the English answer to the Arc de Triomphe. The Arch was originally constructed to commemorate Britain's victories in the Napoleonic Wars and is designed by Decimus Burton and commissioned by Gorge IV.
In 1912, the largest bronze sculpture in England, designed by Adrian Jones depicting 'Peace Descending on the Quad Riga of War’ was placed on top of the Arch.
Since 1999 the arch has been looked after by English Heritage and has been restored at the cost of £1.5 million. The arch houses an exhibition run on its three floors of exhibits detailing the history of the arch and some of its uses. One half of the arch also serves as a ventilation shaft to the London Underground.
Visitors can also enjoy dramatic views down Constitution Hill and across central London from the Arch's spacious balconies. The arch is also available for hosting events, parties and celebrations at a reasonable cost.
