 Victoria and Albert Museum
Victoria and Albert Museum is rated as the world’s best and largest museum dedicated to art and design. The museum was opened in 1852 and is named after Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. The museum has over five thousand years of art and 145 galleries. There are artifacts from every part of the globe and the collection exceeds five million.
Museum has extensive displays of glass, sculpture, furniture, jewellery, silver, costumes, ceramics, prints and printmaking, drawings and photography.
The museum has extensive collection of metalwork and ceramics showcased in its East Asian collection. Artifacts from the Asian continent especially the Islamic world is part of the Departments of Asia. Renaissance era was considered as an era of art and culture and Italy had some of the great contributions to it, these artifacts are showcased in the museum making it the largest and the most extensive outside Italy.
The Museum is divided into four departments, Asia; Furniture, textiles and Fashion; Sculpture, Metalwork, Ceramics & Glass and Word & Image. Departments are further devided into collections, though some of them are cross departmental displays.

Architecture, Asia, British Galleries, Ceramics, Childhood, Contemporary, Fashion & Jewellery, Furniture, Glass, Metalwork, Paintings & Drawings, Periods and styles, Photography, Prints & Books, Sculpture and Textiles is the list of collections on display.
Architecture collection houses 600,000 plus drawings, over 750,000 papers and belongings, and over 700,000 photographs, combined together they from the most extensive architectural resource.
Asia Collection is home to 160,000 artifacts. The collection comes from different parts of the Asian continent including artifacts from South and South East Asia, Himalayan Kingdoms, China, the Far East and the Islamic world.
British collection has been a new addition to the museum and it has fifteen galleries which opened its doors to the visitors in November 2001. These galleries houses over 4000 items and the items are classified into themes: 'Style', 'Who Led Taste' and 'What Was New'. Items covered in the collection are from fifteen century onwards. Ceramics collection is the world’s most extensive collection with over seventy five thousand artifacts from around the globe. Contemporary Collection is a place for hosting temporary exhibits. Fashion and jewellery collection has over 14,000 outfits and over 6000 jewellery items. Furniture section is a collection of over fourteen thousand items including clocks, musical instruments, furniture and even complete rooms are as display.
Glass collection has over 6000 items showcasing the 4000 year history of glass making. Metalwork collection has on display decorative ironwork, both wrought and cast, bronze, silverware, arms and armour, pewter, brassware and enamels. The collection is one of the most extensive and is above forty five thousand items. Paintings and drawing collection has over eleven thousand painting. 500000 plus photograph’s are a part of the photography collection. Prints and books collection is home the National Art Library
with over 1,500,000 books on offering. Sculpture collection holds 17,500 items dating from 400 AD to 1914. Textile collection covers over 38000 items showcasing European textile items from 1st century onwards.
