Tours to Stonehenge
Stonehenge is located in the Salisbury Plain three kilometers west of the town of Amesbury. A World Heritage Site its earliest portions dates to approximately 2950 BC and the latest as old as 1600 BC . Is consists of series of earth, timber, and stone structures that were re-modeled over a period of more than 1400 years. The megalithic ruin was constructed in three phases, which he labeled Stonehenge I, II, IIIa, IIIb, and IIIc. As it has stood the time it can be also called a symbol of mystery, power and endurance.
There have been various speculations and theories behind the structure. Some speculate that it was a temple made for the worship of ancient earth deities while some say it is a astronomical observatory for marking significant events on the prehistoric calendar while the latest thought is that it is a sacred site for the burial. As its purpose is debated so is the question that who made the structure. Some suggest that the site was started by people of the late Neolithic period (around 3000 BC) and later on completed by carried forward by Beaker Folk.

According to Professor Mike Parker Pearson, head of Stonehenge Riverside Project
“Stonehenge was a place of burial from its beginning to its zenith in the mid third millennium B.C. The cremation burial dating to Stonehenge's sarsen stones phase is likely just one of many from this later period of the monument's use and demonstrates that it was still very much a domain of the dead.”
It take around two hours to complete the tour of the Heritage site and can be reached by bus tours. Most of the bus tours start from Central London.
