The third airport in London in terms of both size and magnitude of operations is the Stansted Airport London. It's a quaint little airport, little by UK standards but certainly not by Afro-Asian standard.

Stansted airport has a bit of history attached to it. In its earliest avatar, the present airport premises used to be a Roman burial site and in the year 1942, a runway was constructed by USAAF which was later used by Fighter air crafts for bombarding France in the year 1944.

It was only in the year 1966, that the British Airport Authority took possession of the land built the new terminal building in the year 1970. Ever since 1970, the Stansted Airport has been evolving and growing bigger and bigger in size to accommodate more airline traffic. Finally, in the year 1991, the Queen of England opened the £400 million airport terminal for routine flight operations.
All standard airport amenities are available at Standsted, though not of the dimension of Heathrow, yet they are quality oriented by any international yardstick.
