 London Tourist Sites
London offers a wide array of tourist sites that serve to almost all visitor needs. London is home to four World Heritage Sites, great museums, amazing Victorian architectural monuments, Gardens, Galleries and various other attractions.
London is home to over 250 museums, out of the ten most popular museums in the world, London is home to four of them. The British Museum, one of the greatest museums on earth is London’s most popular visitor attraction. Natural History Museum is home to over 70 million exhibits ranging from exhibits related to botany, entomology, mineralogy, paleontology and zoology. Science Museum is home to exhibits showcasing human achievements in scientific and technological development. Victoria and Albert Museum is rated as the world’s best and largest museum dedicated to art and design. The museum has over five thousand years of art and 145 galleries. There are artifacts from every part of the globe and the collection exceeds five million.

Most famous are the four World Heritage Sites – Kew Gardens, Maritime Greenwich, Palace of Westminster, and the Tower of London. Kew Gardens or he Royal Botanic Gardens is home to atleast one in eight plant species on our planet. The Kew Gardens consist of conservatories, a herbarium, a library and eating places. Greenwich is home to The Royal Observatory where a tourist can actually stand with his body divided, half in the eastern and the other half in the western hemisphere as the prime meridian passes under you. The National Maritime Museum is also a great tourist attraction in Greenwich.
The Palace of Westminster or the Houses of Parliament is where the two house of parliament meet, the House of Lords and the House of Commons respectively.
The north-eastern end of the Palace of Westminster houses the great bell clock also knows as Big Ben. The Royal Palace and Fortress are also knows as the Tower of London and is located on the north bank of the River Thames and has served many different functions: a fortress, a royal palace, a place of execution and torture, an armory, a treasury, a zoo, the Royal Mint, a public records office, an observatory, currently home of the Crown Jewels and a prison.
'The London Dungeon', 'The London Eye' and 'Madame Tussaud's' are one of the greatest crowd pullers. Under the Southwark is a great London Horror tourist attraction also known by the name London Dungeon. British Airways London Eye earlier known as Millennium Wheel takes you to a height of 135m, right in the center of London adjacent the Thames. Madam Tussaud’s gives you a chance to mingle with your favorite celebrity wax figures.
Stonehenge is located in the Salisbury Plain three kilometers west of the town of Amesbury. A World Heritage Site its earliest portions dates to approximately 2950 BC and the latest as old as 1600 BC and is thought to be a sacred site for the burial.
