 London Eye
The London Eye which is was formally known as the Millennium Wheel is the world's tallest cantilevered observation wheel. It is the third the biggest Ferris wheel in the world and the biggest in Europe. The height of the structure is 135 meters. The London Eye is located at the western end of Jubilee Gardens, on the South Bank of the River Thames.
Since opening in March 2000 The London Eye has become an iconic landmark and a symbol of modern Britain. It is the most popular paid attraction in the UK and is visited by over 3.5 million people a year. London eye was designed by architects David Marks, Julia Barfield, Malcolm Cook, Mark Sparrowhawk, Steven Chilton and Nic Bailey. The Ferris wheel carries 32 passenger capsules which are all sealed and air-conditioned. London has 32 boroughs and each capsule represents one of them.
Each capsule can accommodate 24 visitors and there is seating as well as walking space in them with a 360 degree panaromic view. Visitors in the London Eye's capsules can see up to 40 kilometers in all directions. It took seven years and the skilled workforce of hundreds from five countries to make the London Eye.
Prime Minister Tony Blair formally inaugurated the London Eye on 31 December 1999.
