London Culture Guide
London is home to over 150 theatres and 300 art galleries and there are always events and exhibitions happening. South Bank Centre is Europe’s largest centre for the arts and attracts more than three million visitors annually. It comprises of three concert halls: the Royal Festival Hall, the Queen Elizabeth Hall and the Purcell Room and The Hayward art gallery. It’s a cultural Mecca hosting more then a thousand paid and over 300 free events featuring performances of music, dance and literature. The Hayward art gallery hosts around six major exhibitions.
Music
Royal Opera House and London Coliseum, Royal Festival Hal, Royal Albert Hall and Wigmore Hall are some of the prominent centers for Opera’s and orchestra performances.
Royal Opera and English National Opera have a huge following and there performances are followed closely. London Philharmonic Orchestra and London Symphony Orchestra are ranked amongst the top orchestras across the world.

Theatre
London offers some of the world's best theatre and is home to over 100 theaters. Wicked: The Untold Story of the Witches of Oz, The Phantom of the Opera, The Lion King, Mamma Mia!, Billy Elliot: The Musical, Hairspray , Oliver! , Jersey Boys and We Will Rock You are the brightest and best shows currently wowing audiences on London's stages.
Dance
Sadler’s Wells Theatre, home to the Royal Ballet and Barbican Theatre is where most of the touring dance companies.
Cultural Events
Most of the Londoners crowd the Trafalgar Square on New Year’s. Chinese new year is also a much awaited even with Lion Dance performance at Chinatown. Also prominent onn the even calendar are events like Coin Street Festival at Gabriel’s Wharf, the arts extravaganza at Greenwich, Docklands Festival and Mardi Gras parade and festival which is also a prime even on the gay and lesbian calendar.
Europe’s largest street carnival happens at Notting Hill Carnival. It’s a two day event and is attended by more than two million people. Trooping the Color, Queen’s birthday celebration, Lord Mayor’s Show, London Film Festival and Proms are some of the other events which Londoners eagerly await.
