 Imperial War Museum
The Imperial War Museum is located in Southwark, South London. The museum is a collection of British and Commonwealth history since 1914, which shows the causes, course and consequences of the conflict. The museum was founded in 1917 with the efforts of Sir Alfred Mond. On the inauguration address Sir Alferd Mond said that “'it was hoped to make the museum so complete that every one who took part in the war, however obscurely, would find therein an example or illustration of the sacrifice he or she made' and that the museum 'was not a monument of military glory, but a record of toil and sacrifice'”. Thus the museum reminds visitors what the country and its citizens faced during the World War.
Not just housing the artifacts the museum also makes its patrons available with an online database of its collections named Collections Online. The Museum's collections include archives of personal and official documents, photographs, film and video material, and oral history recordings; an extensive library, a large art collection, and examples of weaponry, equipment, military vehicles and aircraft, and other artifacts.
The museum also contains post World War II exhibits which also show the role of United Kingdom in the NATO alliance. It covers exhibits from North Korean war and also some from the cold war era.
