 Cenotaph
A cenotaph is a tomb or a monument erected as a mark of respect and honor for a person or group of persons whose remains are at some other place. The Cenotaph is one of the best known examples and is located in the Whitehall, London. It is a remembrance of the soldiers who died in the First World War.
The Cenotaph is also where the annual national service of remembrance is held at 11:00 a.m. on Remembrance Sunday, the closest Sunday to 11 November also called Armistice Day which is the anniversary of the end of World War I on 11 November 1918.
It is flanked on each side by various flags of the United Kingdom, the Cenotaph displayed a Union Ensign representing the United Kingdom, a White Ensign representing the Merchant Navy, Red Ensign representing the Royal Navy and the Blue Ensign representing the Royal Air Force, thus since 2007 Royal Navy, the British Army, the Royal Air Force, and the Merchant Navy have be represented on the Cenotaph.
