 Canary Wharf
Canary Wharf is the upcoming new shopping and financial centre in London and rivals "The Square Mile”. Its construction was started in 1988 and is home to the three tallest buildings in London. During the years Canary Wharf has attracted a number of major banking institutions including Credit Suisse, HSBC and Citigroup. HSBC has its world headquarters at Canary Wharf. Some of the other major companies having its offices are Clifford Chance, Thomson Reuters, and the Daily Mirror.
After the port industry saw a decline in the 50’s, Canary Wharf was built on the site of the West India Docks on the Isle of Dogs. Carry Warf gets it name from a warehouse in the import docks and was used for storing trade material from the Mediterranean and Canary Islands.
One Canada Square the tallest building in the UK's also is a symbol of the development and regeneration of Docklands. The development projects in the area have provided a great opportunity for local employment and also given post development jobs in various offices and today over 100000 people are employed in the estate. Canary Wharf is emerging as a popular shopping destination with new opening of more retail shops and many new shopping centers.
