Cambridge is best known for the University of Cambridge and in recent times also for high-technology centre known as Silicon Fen. The history of the city dates back to 3500 yrs ever since it become a Roman settlement. Cambridge has been a settlement for Romans, Saxons, Vikings and Normans. It has grown from a small farming settlement to the current city with a population over 1,20,000. It’s a great destination for visitors who like to have a walk in the past away from the fast life of London.
Academically, Cambridge is consistently ranked in the top five universities around the world. It has the honor of producing 82 Noble lecturers and is also the highest in the world by any other university. Just ten miles south of Cambridge is Duxford home to Imperial War Museum Duxford. The museum has seven exhibition buildings with about 200 military and civil aircrafts and also Land Warfare Hall which houses tanks, vehicles and artillery from the First World War to the Gulf War. Just 13 miles east of Cambridge is Newmarket, headquarters for British horse racing. It has two horse courses, the Rowley Mile Course and the July Course and host over 40 world class racing events and 200 races.
Ely often known as the Cathedral city, is home to The Cathedral Church of the Holy and Undivided Trinity also considered as one of the Seven Wonders of the Medieval World. The city is on the River Great Ouse, a training ground for the University of Cambridge rowing team for the annual Boat Race against Oxford University.
Cambridge is also famous for its museums; some of the famous museums are Sedgwick Museum, Folk Museum, Kettle's Yard Museum, Imperial War Museum, The Farmland Museum, The Whipple Museum and The Cambridge Museum of Technology.
Silicon Fen also knows as the Cambridge Cluster, the area around the city famous for its high-tech businesses parks with companies working in the field of software, electronics, and biotechnology making there home.
